Samsung SCC-931T Anti-Vandal Dome 12x Optical Zoom DSS

This is by far one of our favorite cameras! We have installed over 100 of these units both indoors & outdoors (we’re in Oklahoma so the temperature & weather conditions are complete madness) with great success. So far we have only had (1) of these units fail in two years! These guys have an excellent picture & a ton of truly functional features that make them one of the most diverse cameras on the market!

PROs: Versatile – Install almost anywhere!, Anti-Vandal (These guys are heavy duty!), RS-485 decoder built-in!, 12x AUTO-FOCUS Optical Zoom, Dual Voltage, Digital Slow Shutter for good low light performance (SLOW MOVING OBJECTS!), Super high quality picture, Good Warranty

CONs: Heavy, Digital Slow Shutter does not work well with moving objects (THIS IS COMMON TO ALL DSS CAMERAS – NOT JUST THE SAMSUNG SCC-931T), Samsung Service is SLOOOOWWW.

RECOMMENDATION: We would recommend this camera to anyone who requires a Day/Night operation camera w/ Anti-Vandal design. You can get other Anti-Vandal Day/Night cameras for a lower price if you don’t need the AutoZoom / AutoFocus & Remote Control Ability but you will not find anything else that even comes remotely close to the picture quality or functionality of this camera for even $100 more than the price of the Samsung SCC-931T.

Pelco CCC5100H Series SIMD (PIXIM)

I’ll start this article off with one of the only negative things we have to say about this camera – the first one we received was DOA (replaced in 2 days) and we needed it for an install the next day! Well, that 2 day replament was worth the wait because this camera produces one of the best, true-to-life pictures we have seen.

PROs: Excellent Picture Quality (Rich Colors, True-to-life detailing in even extreme backlight / contrast lighting conditions), Easy to Use & Setup (especially with the Pelco mini-view plug-in monitor!), Pelco Service & Warranty

CONs: Pricing

RECOMMENDATION: Worth the price if you consider the Pelco warranty & service & have an area with scene lighting differential or even if your customer (or you!) require a true-to-life picture in any scene. There are other versions of this camera technology available for about 70% of the price of this one if you are not worried about service & warranty term.

Hi,

This is Josh with Digi Surveillance Systems. As many of you know specification VS operation is a big issue in the security industry today. We’ll use this blog to keep you up to date with reviews on the newest items as we test them (PROs & CONs & Recommendations) and welcome any reviews (just place them in the appropriate category) you may have on any products you test as well.
